I’ve spent my life working in places where people don’t have the luxury of specialists. My first job out of college required me to write an entire operating system for an insurance specialty line at a Fortune 500 company's specialty division. Their traditional system was too restrictive and slow. They needed something more fluid. That lived experience helped move Duck Creek Technologies into one of the top operating systems in the industry and prompted me to get curious about issues in other industries like retail and education.

From industry to industry I've discovered that traditional operating systems were funded and built for large, established businesses with processes and procedures made for large teams. But small and mid-size businesses often rely on innovative processes that are often bottlenecked by the checks and balances so coveted by large system designs. To make matters worse, the investment environment makes it tough for tech-founders to build solutions at pricepoints that work for small and mid-sized businesses without you, or your customers, becoming the actual product they sell.
